Madagascar Day Gecko

Madagascar Day Gecko (Phelsuma madagasceriensis madagascariensis) is a beautiful bright green gecko.

It is very large to be a gecko - it can grow more than 20cm long.

As other geckoes, it lacks eyelids, and has toe pads that enable it to climb on vertical surfaces (or even upside down).

As its name says, it's a diurnal gecko, and it lives in the rainforests of eastern Madagascar.

It's often found in trees where it eats mostly insects, fruit and nectar. Like many other geckoes, it can also inhabit houses.

Some people also keep them as pets, however in captivity, these geckos can be aggressive to each other.
