It is
located in
eastern parts of Democratic Republic of Congo (former
Zaire), where it covers about 63,000 square kilometres of land in hot
and humid tropical
rainforest
biome.
These
rainforests contain the famous Okapi
Wildlife Reserve
- which, as the name says, protects okapis; and also
other animals
such as elephants and primates - from deforestation, hunting and other
threats
Okapi
Wildlife Reserve is a World Heritage site which covers about 14,000
square kilometers. It
is
also inhabited by local
Bantu and
Mbuti pygmy
people.
